Small Animal FAQ
How long will a small animal physio session take?
The initial physio consultation will take 60 minutes. This session involves discussing the animal's medical conditions and history. We will then undertake a full assessment and discuss and carry out relevant treatment options.
Clinic follow up sessions are generally 45 minutes as we already have any understanding of the animal and their requirements. Home visit follow up appointments may vary in length.

How can I prepare for the session?
Prior to the initial appointment we require you to complete the Client Registration Form which will be emailed to you. This provides us with information about you and your animal and also provides us with written informed consent prior to the session.
We kindly ask that all animals are clean and dry in preparation for their sessions.
If we are attending your animal at home we require a calm quiet area away from distractions. If you have other animals that may be distracting during the session we ask that they are removed from the area.

Do you need veterinary consent for my animal to have physiotherapy?
We do require veterinary consent to treat your animal.
Once you have completed our Client Registration Form we will contact your veterinary practice to gain consent and the clinical history.
How many sessions will my animal need?
Each session is tailored to the individual animal. As a result the number of sessions required is dependent on the assessment findings and treatment goals.
Can you treat my animal if they are nervous or aggressive?
We understand that when animals are in a situation they are not used to they may become more nervous or anxious than usual. We will always work at the animals pace to minimise undue stress and adapt treatment where necessary. Most animals respond very well to this. It is also helpful if you contact us prior to your appointment where we can provide you with advice on distraction techniques that may be of help.
If your animal has shown aggressive tendencies in the past we would ask that you notify us prior to the session so we can complete an accurate risk assessment.
My dog has been known to bite, do I need to bring a muzzle?
If a dog has bitten in the past we do ask that you bring a muzzle for your dog to wear. If you do not have one please let us know ahead of the apointment so we can organise this.
What do I need to do with my animal in between sessions?
The physio will provide you with advice on activity management and home set up. Physio does not stop when you leave the appointment and you will also be provided exercises and a treatment plan for you to continue at home before the next session.
Will you talk to my vet or other professionals involved in my animal's management?
We will obtain veterinary consent and request their medical records are sent to us prior to treating your animal. If we feel it is appropriate or necessary, we will arrange further communication with any professionals involved in the ongoing management of your animal. We will ensure there is ongoing communication with your animal's multidisciplinary team to optimise outcomes.

Do you accept insurance claims?
Many insurance policies will cover physiotherapy for your animal. Please check with your insurance provider that physio is covered in your policy if you are planning to claim for the treatment. An admin fee may be charged should we be required to assist with the claim. Unfortunately we do not accept direct claims.
